The LA Department of Power & Water Co-Generation placards are required to inform emergency services the location of the PV Arrays and the PV Disconnects. For utility-approved PV and co-generation service requirements (including disconnect and equipment rules that drive this placarding), reference the LADWP Electric Service Requirements Manual (2025 Edition).
LADWP Co-Generation Placards — Required for LADWP Territory Installations
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) co-generation placards are required on all solar installations within LADWP service territory to inform emergency services of the location of PV arrays and all disconnects. The requirement is specified in the LADWP Electric Service Requirements Manual (2025 Edition) and must be satisfied before final utility interconnection is approved.

About Solar PV Placards
Solar PV placards identify the presence and location of the solar system to utility workers, inspectors, and first responders. Unlike adhesive labels, placards are typically mounted to equipment enclosures or exterior walls and must withstand outdoor exposure for the life of the system.

What You'll Need for a Typical Install
- Solar PV system placard at utility meter
- Backfeed breaker placard at main panel
- AC disconnect placard at all disconnecting means
- Site map placard if required by AHJ
- Fire department access placard for rooftop systems
- LADWP co-gen placard if in LADWP service territory
- Single-line diagram placard if AHJ requires it
