Written by the National Fire Protection Association, the NEC 2020 NFPA 70 is the most widely adopted edition of the NEC by jurisdictions in the US.

In the 2020 NEC, Article 690 refined rapid shutdown, specifying standardized signage, labeling, and new requirements for “initiator” devices and communication between shutdown equipment. Article 706 was expanded, specifying system isolation, management, and safety for the growth of the ESS market.
